In a major operation, the Amritsar Rural Police arrested two alleged shooters following an encounter in the Khilchian area. The police also recovered two illegal pistols from the accused. Police claim the duo was planning to execute a major crime.
Accused opened fire at the police
Amritsar Rural SSP Kavalpreet Singh Chahal stated that the police had received a tip-off regarding the presence of two shooters—linked to Amandeep Singh (alias Manna), a gang leader operating from abroad—in the Khilchian area. Acting on this information, the police tracked down the suspects using technical surveillance and intelligence networks. When the police team attempted to intercept the two suspects near the Demo Canal, the accused opened fire. An exchange of fire ensued between the two sides. In the ensuing police action taken in self-defense, one of the accused, Heera Singh, was shot in the leg. The injured accused was immediately hospitalized for treatment.
.32 bore and 9mm pistols recovered from the accused
According to the police, the arrested individuals have been identified as Heera Singh and Lavpreet Singh. Heera Singh already has a murder case registered against him. Preliminary investigations revealed that both accused worked for the foreign-based gangster Amandeep Singh (alias Manna), who operates his gang from Europe. The police recovered a .32 bore pistol and a 9mm pistol from the accused. SSP Chahal stated that legal action is also being taken against criminals orchestrating criminal activities in Punjab from abroad, and the process to bring them back to India is underway.
The police are currently conducting intensive interrogation of both accused.
