Jalandhar receives a gift worth ₹112.93 crore; Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Bittu to lay the foundation stone for two new ROBs today.

Date:

Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu will lay the foundation stone on June 24 for the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) at Guru Nanak Pura Gate (B-67) and Garha Gate (S-4), at a total cost of ₹112.93 crore.

Ravneet Bittu will lay the foundation stone at Guru Nanak Pura Gate at 4:00 PM and at Garha Gate at 5:00 PM, accompanied by BJP leadership and officials including Sanjeev Kumar Srivastava (Chief Administrative Officer, Construction & Road Safety Projects, Northern Railway) and DRM Sanjeev Kumar. Consequently, the Guru Nanak Pura Gate will remain closed from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The two ROBs will be constructed at a cost of ₹112.93 crore. Of this amount, the Railways will spend ₹48.95 crore for the Guru Nanak Pura ROB and ₹63.98 crore for the Garha ROB.

Traffic Diversion Today:
1. On Ladowali Road, from Krishna Factory/BSF Chowk towards PP Chowk:
– Motorists will have to travel via Chogitti Chowk towards PP Chowk.

The Guru Nanak Pura Gate, situated on the Amritsar-New Delhi railway line between Jalandhar City and the Cantonment, is the busiest crossing; 110 trains pass through it daily. Diverting traffic once the ROB construction begins will be a major challenge, as the closure of the PAP service lane has already resulted in 95 percent of traffic using this gate, with only five percent passing through Ramamandi. While the Bashirpura Gate is an alternative for diversion, the area is extremely congested. Completion of the PAP service lane work is urgently required.
The Guru Nanak Pura Gate, situated on the Amritsar-New Delhi railway line between Jalandhar City and the Cantonment, is the busiest crossing; 110 trains pass through it daily. Diverting traffic passing through this crossing once the ROB (Rail Over Bridge) work begins will be a major challenge; this is because, with the PAP service lane already closed, 95 percent of the traffic is currently using this crossing, while the remaining five percent comes via Ramamandi. Although the Bashirpura crossing is an alternative for diversion, the area is extremely congested, raising concerns about the situation if the traffic load increases there. Alternatively, diverting all traffic towards Ramamandi would also lead to chaotic conditions. Consequently, the only viable option is to expedite the completion of the ramp construction on the PAP service lane.

The construction company has already set back the PAP boundary wall on one side, and pillars are being erected on the other; the drainage system has also been completed. The company claims that the project will be finished by October.

**Second Steel Bowstring Bridge Over the Railway Crossing**
A steel bowstring bridge is set to be constructed over the Guru Nanakpura railway crossing on the Jalandhar-Delhi rail route. The Railways will bear 100 percent of the construction costs for this ROB. A similar bowstring bridge has already been built at Laddewali, where the cost was shared equally between the Railways and the state government.

The construction of the Guru Nanakpura ROB will entail challenges similar to those faced during the Laddewali project, as utilities such as the sewerage system and water pipelines will need to be relocated in a similar manner.
