A speeding trailer driver rammed into a Fortuner vehicle ahead of it at Ladowal Chowk on the National Highway today. Several family members inside the Fortuner were injured in the collision; meanwhile, the trailer went out of control, mounted the footpath, and crossed over to the opposite side of the highway. The impact was so severe that it caused a massive traffic jam on both carriageways of the National Highway. Upon receiving news of the accident, police from the Ladowal station immediately arrived at the scene and detained the trailer driver.
Investigating Officer (IO) Manjit Singh stated that the Fortuner driver was traveling to Pathankot with his family after paying obeisance at Sri Hemkunt Sahib. At Ladowal Chowk, the speeding trailer struck the Fortuner violently from behind. The trailer driver lost control, drove onto the footpath, and eventually managed to steer the vehicle onto the opposite side of the highway. The IO noted that a major tragedy was averted because school had just ended at a nearby government school on the highway, and most children had already crossed the road. He added that the Fortuner was carrying a couple and about five children; some of the children sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby doctor for treatment. The trailer driver has been detained and taken to the Ladowal police station, and further action will be taken based on the statement of the Fortuner’s driver. Appropriate legal action will follow based on the circumstances. Traffic Jam on Both Sides of the Highway: Following the collision between the trailer and the Fortuner at Ladowal Chowk, a massive traffic jam ensued on both sides of the highway, leading to long queues of vehicles. Traffic police and personnel from the Ladowal station worked hard to clear the congestion and restore the flow of traffic. After about half an hour of effort, traffic flow on the national highway was restored, and both vehicles involved in the accident were taken to the Ladowal police station.
