The Rajpura City Police have registered a case—including charges of murder—against six individuals following the suspicious death of a 19-year-old youth from Shamdo village who had gone out to celebrate a birthday with friends. The case was registered based on the statement of the deceased’s father, and a search for the accused is underway. Gurpreet Singh, son of Mahinder Singh and a resident of Shamdo village, informed the police that his son, Gurtej Singh (19), had gone to ‘Gogi Dhaba’ on the Rajpura-Chandigarh road in a car with six friends to celebrate a birthday.
Gurpreet Singh stated that when his son returned home covered in blood, his grandfather, Mahinder Singh, called to inform him that Gurtej had sustained injuries during a fight. Upon being brought to the Civil Hospital in Rajpura, doctors declared him dead. The father alleged that there were marks of blows from an iron rod on the back of Gurtej’s head and a knife wound on his hand, with blood flowing from the injuries. He suspects that the six friends beat him to death.
The City Police have registered a case against the six friends—all residents of Shamdo village: Harman Singh (son of Karamjit Singh), Balwinder Singh (son of Satnam Singh), Uday Singh (son of Ram Dayal), Navdeep Singh (son of Bhupinder Singh), Balwinder Singh (son of Davinder Singh), and Akash Singh (son of Harjinder Singh)—under various sections of the IPC, including Section 103 (murder), and have initiated an investigation. Inspector Gursevak Singh Sidhu stated that the City Police are investigating the murder from multiple angles.
