A shocking incident came to light on Thursday afternoon in the village of Jassi Bagh Wali, falling under the jurisdiction of the Sangat police station in Bathinda district, where a husband allegedly shot and killed his wife. Preliminary investigations reveal that the couple had been embroiled in a long-standing domestic dispute, and the accused harbored suspicions about his wife. This sensational incident, which occurred in broad daylight, has created an atmosphere of panic in the entire area.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Gurmeet Kaur (aged approximately 35), a resident of Jassi Bagh Wali village. On Thursday afternoon, Gurmeet Kaur was returning home after purchasing items from a local grocery store when her husband, Manjit Singh, arrived on a motorcycle without a registration number and fired multiple rounds at her. Critically injured, Gurmeet Kaur succumbed to her injuries on the spot, while the accused fled after committing the crime. Alerted by the sound of gunfire, locals rushed to the scene and immediately informed the police. Upon receiving the information, the Sangat police and DSP (Rural) Harvinder Singh Saran arrived at the location with their team and initiated an investigation. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations revealed that the accused, Manjit Singh, is a farmer, and the couple had been having disputes for some time. Villagers stated that the accused suspected his wife’s character. The police believe the murder was committed due to this dispute, although the exact motive will only be confirmed following the accused’s arrest and interrogation. DSP (Rural) Harvinder Singh Saran stated that a murder case has been registered against the accused, and continuous raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts to apprehend him. The police are confident that the accused will soon be arrested and the weapon used in the crime recovered.
