Acting under a campaign to arrest drug smugglers, the PAU police station team arrested an accused individual while he was on his way to supply heroin.
Providing details, Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Amritpal stated that a police team led by Sub-Inspector Sukhbeg Singh was patrolling near the ‘Ganda Nala’ (drain) bridge on Bachan Singh Marg when they spotted a man approaching on foot. When the team signaled him to stop for a check, the man panicked upon seeing the police and attempted to flee. However, the team acted swiftly to apprehend him; a search of the individual yielded 5.20 grams of heroin.
The SHO stated that the accused was immediately arrested and identified as Gautam, son of Iqbal Singh, a resident of Rishi Nagar. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act. He added that the accused would be produced in court today to seek police remand for further interrogation regarding the source of the heroin and the intended recipient—details the police expect to uncover in the coming days.
