In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a cross-border drug smuggling network. Two accused have been arrested in connection with the case. Authorities recovered 8.378 kg of heroin and ₹2 lakh in drug proceeds from their possession.
The seized heroin is estimated to be worth crores of rupees. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav shared these details, stating that preliminary investigations revealed the accused were operating under the instructions of smugglers based across the border. Their role involved collecting heroin consignments from various locations in Punjab and distributing them across the state.
Separate FIRs have been registered at the Chheharta and Islamabad police stations in Amritsar regarding this matter. The police are now conducting a thorough investigation to identify the network’s upstream and downstream links as well as other accomplices, aiming to completely dismantle the entire drug smuggling network.
