Fraud Case: Lakhs Swindled Under Pretext of Sending Person to New Zealand

Date:

The network of unscrupulous agents who dupe gullible people with promises of sending them abroad continues to expand. In a recent incident, a case has come to light where a substantial sum of ₹12 lakh was swindled from a man under the pretext of sending his younger brother to New Zealand. The victim was neither sent abroad nor was his money returned. Following a detailed investigation ordered by senior police officials, the Daresi police have registered a case against the accused, Paras Kumar, on charges of fraud and criminal breach of trust.

Gurpreet Singh, the official complainant, informed the police that the accused had gained his trust. The accused claimed to have strong connections and influence abroad, promising to secure a legal New Zealand visa for the complainant’s younger brother, Parvinder Singh, and arrange a good job for him there. Swayed by these assurances, the victim’s family handed over a total of ₹12 lakh to the accused in various installments.

After pocketing the money, the accused kept offering false reassurances and employing delaying tactics. Despite the passage of considerable time, the accused neither sent Parvinder Singh to New Zealand nor arranged for a visa. When the victims realized they had been defrauded and demanded the return of their money, the accused flatly refused to pay and reneged on his promises. Police officials state that the accused’s bank accounts and financial transactions are being scrutinized, and further investigative and legal procedures are underway to effect his arrest.
