Panic gripped the Fatehgarh Churian area of Batala around 10:30 AM on Monday when two unidentified motorcyclists shot and critically injured a man. The injured individual has been identified as Amarjit Singh Deo; he sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
He was taken to the government hospital in Fatehgarh Churian for treatment, but after receiving first aid, doctors referred him to Amritsar due to his critical condition.
According to reports, Amarjit Singh was traveling from Station Road towards Ajnala Road when two motorcyclists intercepted him and opened fire. He was critically injured after being shot in the shoulder. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the incident. Amarjit is the uncle of a Congress councilor.
Upon receiving news of the incident, Fatehgarh Churian DSP Lalit Kumar and Station House Officer (SHO) Gurinder Singh Dhillon arrived at the scene with a police team. The police inspected the site and have initiated an investigation. They are currently scanning the surrounding area to identify the attackers. It is reported that the injured Amarjit Singh is the uncle of Ranjeet Singh, the Congress councilor for Ward Number 5. The victim’s nephew, Gurpreet Singh, and Municipal Council President Kulvinder Singh Lali stated that Amarjit Singh was out for work when the two motorcyclists stopped him and fired the shot.
Police working to identify the accused
DSP Lalit Kumar stated that the police are investigating the matter and making efforts to identify the assailants responsible for the shooting. He assured that the accused would soon be identified and arrested. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown at this stage.
