Local residents are furious over the installation of a bitumen (hot-mix/asphalt) plant near residential homes on Batala Road in Kalanaur. A large number of locals gathered to protest and raise slogans against the move. Members of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha also joined the demonstration to extend their support to the residents.
The protesters argue that the plant’s proximity to the residential area will lead to increased smoke, foul odors, and pollution, adversely affecting both the environment and the health of nearby residents. They warned that if construction is not halted, they would launch an indefinite sit-in protest in collaboration with farmers’ organizations. They urged the administration to investigate the matter and address the public’s concerns.
Meanwhile, the plant’s contractor stated over the phone that the facility is being set up in compliance with all legal regulations and involves no irregularities. All eyes are now on the administration to see what decision it takes amidst the local opposition and the contractor’s claims.
