Date:

The participation of ordinary citizens has emerged as a major strength for the police in Punjab’s ongoing ‘War Against Drugs’ (*Yudh Nashon Viruddh*) campaign. Based on 51,979 confidential tips provided by citizens via the ‘Safe Punjab Helpline,’ the arrest of 25,339 individuals accused in drug trafficking cases has been made possible.

This action was carried out between March 1, 2025, and September 3, 2026. According to the police, crucial information regarding suspected drug trafficking and related activities was obtained through the ‘Safe Punjab Helpline’ (97791-00200). Out of the 59,293 FIRs registered under the NDPS Act in Punjab, more than 25,000 arrests were made based on confidential information received from citizens. **696 ‘Big Fish’ Also Apprehended**
During the campaign, the police also cracked down on major drug traffickers. 696 ‘big fish’ (major kingpins) were arrested in cases involving more than two kilograms of heroin. According to the police, the crackdown is not limited to small-scale drug peddlers; those handling large consignments of narcotics and operating supply networks are also being targeted. **Approximately 3,800 kg of Heroin Seized**
Under the campaign, 3,757 kilograms of heroin, 964 kilograms of opium, 45 tonnes of poppy husk, 1,288 kilograms of cannabis (ganja), and 71 kilograms of methamphetamine were recovered. Drug money worth approximately ₹22 crore was seized, and 2,675 cases involving commercial quantities were registered. DGP speaks of increased citizen participation.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has been strengthened by confidential information received from the public. He expects to receive even more information from citizens in the coming days.

ADGP (ANTF) Nilabh Kishore noted that the 51,979 tips received via the helpline serve as proof of the public’s growing participation in the fight against drugs.
