ED Action in Sunteck City Case: Summons Issued to Mohali SSP

Date:

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued summons to the Mohali SSP, requiring them to provide information regarding the Sunteck City real estate project case. According to sources, the SSP has been asked to appear and submit the necessary details on September 10. This summons follows repeated requests by the Directorate to share investigation records under Section 54 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The ED had previously sought details of the police investigation on August 27, 29, and 31; however, the SSP’s office did not share any information.

Prior to this, the ED had communicated the findings of its investigation to the Mohali Police via letters and emails on July 1, July 21, August 14, August 24, and August 25. A request had also been made to register a new case, but no response regarding the registration of a new offense has been received so far. The complaint alleges that farmers were defrauded of the true value of their land through the use of forged consent letters, which were submitted to obtain approval for land conversion for the Sunteck City project in New Chandigarh. This matter had also been raised before the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Based on a 2022 FIR, the ED has already arrested Sehgal during the money laundering investigation, and a case involving an alleged crime worth approximately ₹348 crore has been registered. Records have also been sought from former Chief Secretary Anurag Verma in connection with this matter. Now, the SSP has been summoned for further investigation and action regarding the case.
