Ludhiana youth enraged over phone lockout; storms shop with accomplices

Date:

In the Prem Nagar area of Dhandari Khurd, a youth, infuriated after his mobile phone (purchased on finance) was locked due to non-payment of installments, stormed an electronics shop with his accomplices while armed with weapons. The accused not only verbally abused and assaulted the shopkeeper but also looted ₹50,000 in cash from the till, a laptop, and a speaker. Subsequently, the attackers stood outside and severely damaged the shop by pelting it with bricks and stones before fleeing while issuing death threats. Based on the victim’s statement, the police have registered a case against the accused for robbery, vandalism, and criminal intimidation.

The victim, a shopkeeper named Muskan, stated in his official statement to the police that he runs a shop named ‘R.N. Electronics’ in Gali No. 1, near Gulabi Vehra, Prem Nagar, Dhandari Khurd. On June 30, he had sold an Oppo mobile phone on finance to a youth named Sameer Khan. However, Sameer Khan failed to pay the scheduled installments. After repeated reminders yielded no payment, the shopkeeper locked the mobile phone via the system, in accordance with the terms. Enraged by the phone being locked, Sameer Khan arrived with his accomplices on September 8 with the intention of seeking revenge.

The victim recounted that he was present at the shop when Sameer Khan, his brother Hajju, Anjuman Bobby, and five to six unidentified youths arrived on two motorcycles and a scooter, armed with lethal weapons. Upon forcibly entering the shop, the accused immediately began hurling vile abuses at the shopkeeper and threatening to kill him. During this incident, the accused, Sameer Khan, reached into the shop’s cash drawer and forcibly took ₹50,000 in cash, a laptop, and a speaker. When the shopkeeper attempted to resist the robbery, the accused stepped outside and began raining bricks and stones indiscriminately at the shop.

The stone-pelting shattered the shop’s glass and damaged other electronic items, causing the shopkeeper significant financial loss. The shopkeeper also sustained injuries from being hit by a stone during the attack. After the incident, the assailants fled the scene on their vehicles, issuing death threats and spreading panic in the area. Following the event, the injured shopkeeper informed the police and recounted the ordeal. Police inspected the site and collected bricks, stones, and other evidence.
Police officials stated that, based on the victim’s complaint, a case has been registered against the named accused—Sameer Khan, Hajju, and Anjuman Bobby—along with 5-6 unidentified accomplices. Charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for robbery, trespassing, vandalism, and assault with intent to kill. Police teams are conducting continuous raids at the accused’s suspected hideouts, and officials claim that all the accused will soon be arrested and the looted property recovered.
