Water Crisis for 3 Lakh Households in Agra: Supply Disrupted in Balkeshwar and Yamunapar; Department Deploys Tankers

Date:

Residents of three lakh households in the Balkeshwar and Yamunapar areas faced a setback on the first day of the week as water supply was disrupted. Transformer replacement work was underway at the Jeewani Mandi Waterworks. To mitigate the inconvenience, the Jal Kal Department deployed water tankers. Meanwhile, low water pressure was reported in half a dozen areas, including Gokulpura and New Raja Ki Mandi, causing further difficulties for residents.

The city’s water supply is managed by the Jeewani Mandi Waterworks and the Sikandra Plant. The Jal Kal Department team began replacing a transformer at the waterworks at 9:00 AM, a task that continued until 7:30 PM, thereby affecting the supply in Balkeshwar and Yamunapar. The control room received 70 calls regarding the water situation, with most callers requesting tanker deliveries. The department supplied water using five tractors and ten tankers, prioritizing the Yamunapar and Balkeshwar areas. Despite continuous tanker deployments, some lanes remained unserved, leading to complaints lodged with Municipal Corporation and Jal Kal Department officials. Low water pressure was also reported in areas such as Gokulpura, New Raja Ki Mandi, Awas Vikas Colony (Sector 4), Garhi Bhadauria, Shahganj, and Gobar Chowki. PC Arya, Executive Engineer (Chhatta Zone), confirmed that the supply disruption in Balkeshwar and Yamunapar was due to the transformer replacement work.

Strict Action Against Those Damaging Pipelines
Kumar Gaurav, General Manager of the Jal Kal Department, reviewed the drinking water supply situation on Monday evening. During the meeting, the issue of unauthorized work and the damaging of water pipelines by companies—including Green Gas and the UP Metro Rail Corporation—was raised. The General Manager directed that strict action be taken against those who damage water lines and that fines be imposed. He also emphasized the need for action against those who waste water.

A look at the figures:
2.50 lakh households in the Yamunapar area
50,000 households in the Balkeshwar area
A population of 3,000 in the Gokulpura area
