The taste of the *Peda*—included under the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) scheme—is reaching beyond national borders, with its unique grainy texture finding great appreciation abroad. Sales exceeding ₹6 lakh were recorded during the five-day trade show, and an order for 200 kg of *Peda* was secured from the Italian company Dominoco Parcoco.
The production of *Peda* in Malwan began in the 1960s. Recently, three stalls showcasing Malwan’s *Peda* were set up at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Noida. The business originated from a humble tea shop run by Mohanlal Gupta along the Kanpur-Prayagraj Highway (formerly GT Road) and has since grown into a major enterprise. Subsequently, *Peda* production expanded to several towns and villages, including Aung, Amouli, Kishunpur, Shah, and Hathgam. *Peda* trader Sohanlal Gupta stated that the product now meets international food standards. Exports are set to commence around Diwali, following the arrival of German-made packaging machinery.
Dr. Dinesh Chand, Assistant Marketing Officer for the Prayagraj Division, confirmed that Malwan’s *Peda* will be exported to Italy after meeting international food standards. Traders are delighted that the trade show has paved the way for these exports. He added that the final hearing regarding the GI (Geographical Indication) tag has concluded, and the tag is expected to be granted soon.
