A case has emerged in Lucknow where an attempt was made to secure a government job by posing as the wife of a deceased Executive Engineer from the Irrigation Department. It is alleged that a woman created a forged marriage certificate to establish herself as the engineer’s wife and submitted it to the department. Following a complaint filed by the actual wife, the Chinhat police have registered a case against five named individuals and several others.
Santoshi Rawat, a resident of a government quarter on Havelock Road, informed the police that her husband, Sushil Kumar, was an Executive Engineer in the Irrigation Department. He passed away in a road accident on April 27, 2025. The couple has four children. It is alleged that following his death, a woman named Lakshmi, in collusion with others, hatched a conspiracy to falsely claim the status of his wife.
According to the complaint, Lakshmi—with the assistance of Chandrika Prasad, Pinku, and others—procured a marriage certificate on July 30, 2020, which identified her as the wife of Sushil Kumar. This document was submitted to the office of the Chief Engineer of the Irrigation Department in an attempt to secure a job and other government benefits.
When Santoshi verified the certificate, the office of the ‘Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, Uttar Pradesh’ confirmed that it was forged. The complaint further states that the same certificate registration number was also used to issue a marriage certificate for another woman, Anuradha Yadav, on August 3, 2024.
The Chinhat police have registered a case against Lakshmi, Chandrika Prasad, Pinku, Ashish Kumar Tripathi, Nitesh Deshwal, and other unidentified individuals on charges of committing fraud to obtain illicit benefits.
