The journey of Mokama MLA Anant Singh from Patna to Prayagraj was nothing short of a political roadshow.
Throughout the nearly 400-kilometer trip, supporters welcomed him at various locations. In some places, flowers were showered upon him using a JCB machine, while in others, he was honored by being presented with a silver crown. During these interactions, he also extended invitations to his daughter’s wedding.
However, when the police stopped his convoy—consisting of hundreds of vehicles—in Varanasi, Anant Singh stated firmly, “I do not travel with so few vehicles. If permission is not granted, I will not proceed.”
Anant Singh’s convoy, which departed from Patna for Prayagraj on Friday, passed through several places, including Bihta, Ara, Buxar, Mohania, Chandauli, Varanasi, and Aurai.
Supporters were waiting for him all along the route. In Ara, he was welcomed with a shower of flowers from a JCB, while in Buxar, he was presented with a silver crown.
During this time, supporters chanted slogans such as “Long live Brahmeshwar Mukhiya” and “Long live Chhote Sarkar.” Due to these various welcoming events, Anant Singh arrived in Prayagraj about four hours behind schedule.
Stopped by Police in Varanasi; Offered Option to Proceed with Five Vehicles
Due to the festival of Dhanteras, there was heavy traffic on the roads and in the markets of Varanasi. In this situation, the police stopped Anant Singh’s convoy—comprising hundreds of vehicles—in the Dafi area.
The administration offered permission for him to proceed with only five vehicles. Anant Singh responded by saying that he does not travel with such a small number of vehicles and that if permission for the full convoy was not granted, he would not continue the journey. Anant Singh also had a scheduled visit to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) campus in Varanasi to lay a wreath at the statue of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. The Lanka police station had been placed on alert upon receiving information about his arrival. His convoy headed towards Prayagraj.
He had traveled to Prayagraj to honor a 30-year-old friendship.
The purpose of Anant Singh’s visit to Prayagraj was to attend a private family function hosted by his old friend, Samajwadi Party leader Pappu Salman.
He visited Pappu Salman’s residence in Subedarganj to attend the *walima* (wedding reception) of his son, Ehraj. He departed for Patna on Saturday morning.
During the visit, he also extended an invitation to his friend for the wedding of his own daughter, Shivangi Singh, scheduled for November 25. The friendship between Anant Singh and Pappu Salman is said to span about 30 years.
Their friendship began through a shared passion for horses; they used to attend horse races together. Pappu Salman also owns eight horses, one of which is reportedly valued at approximately 20 lakh rupees.
