A thief stole the ATM card of a youth from Punjab who had come to Chandigarh to get his mother treated and bought a gold ring. After this, the police got the location of the accused and he was caught. Police station 19 has arrested the accused who stole the bag of a youth who had come to Gurudwara Sahib in Sector-20 for treatment and bought a gold ring using his ATM card. The accused has been identified as Rahul, resident of house number 581/2, Sector-38A, Chandigarh.
A case has been registered in Police Station-39, Chandigarh under FIR number 309, dated 02.08.2014, Section 323, 341, 427, 506 IPC. His brother Rohit is still absconding.
A gold ring (weighing 2.96 grams) has been recovered from the accused, the cost of which is said to be around Rs 55,000.
Accused caught by tracing SMS
Raman Kumar, a resident of Bhawangarh village in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab, who had come to PGI on 18 May 2025 for the treatment of his mother, stopped at Gurudwara Kalgidhar Sahib located in Sector-20C and kept his bag in the hall there, in which his health card, PNB and Indian Bank ATM cards and Rs 800 were kept, which got stolen. After this, he informed about it to Police Station 19 and after that station in-charge Inspector Sarita Roy started investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, a message comes on Raman’s mobile phone – an SMS came on the mobile about the purchase of a gold ring from a jewellery shop, after which Inspector Sarita Roy investigated and found out at which jewellery shop the ATM card was swiped and after that she reached there with the police team.
Brother stole ATM card from the bag
During police interrogation, accused Rahul confessed that his brother Rohit had stolen the purse from Gurudwara Sahib, in which the ATM card and its password were also written. After this, Rohit gave that ATM card to his brother Rahul, who bought a gold ring (weighing 2.96 grams) from ‘Sai Shiv Jewelers’ shop in Duck Town Market DMC. Rohit is currently absconding and the search for him is on.
