An Air India plane going from Ahmedabad, Gujarat to London crashed on June 12. After which the central government has become alert about airports across the country. In view of this, preparations to deal with emergency situations have also been intensified at Chandigarh International Airport. The airport management has announced to conduct a full-scale emergency mock drill at the end of June 2025.
This mock drill will be conducted in collaboration with the Indian Air Force (IAF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), airlines and other related agencies, so that better coordination and quick action can be ensured between all units in case of any disaster.
The central government gave special guidelines
After the Gujarat accident, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has alerted all the airports and has given instructions to review the emergency response system, preparation of fire teams, and special emphasis on training of technical staff. Also, all airports have been asked to update the emergency plan and test it according to the actual conditions.
IAF, CISF, medical teams, airlines, fire brigade, pilots, ground staff and other security agencies will be involved in the mock drill to be held at Chandigarh airport. The aim of the drill is to ensure that all teams can work timely and correctly in case of any plane crash, fire or any other emergency.
Statement of airport administration
The airport administration said that mock drills are usually done from time to time, but this time keeping in mind the plane crash in Gujarat, it will be done with more seriousness and closer to reality. People have been appealed not to panic when this drill is held because it is a pre-planned exercise, so that better work can be done in any emergency.
