Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has decided to increase the prices of flats in the new housing scheme to be built in Sector 53. Now the prices of flats can increase by about 40%. This increase has been proposed on the basis of the new collector rates implemented in the city from April 1.
The board has said in the proposal that a 3 bedroom flat (HIG) will now be available for Rs 2.30 crore, whereas earlier its price was Rs 1.65 crore. That is, there has been an increase of about 39.39 percent. Similarly, the price of 2 BHK (MIG) has increased from Rs 1.40 crore to Rs 1.97 crore. At the same time, the price of EWS flat has increased from Rs 55 lakh to Rs 74 lakh.
Scheme of 372 flats, 3 BHK has the highest demand
In this scheme of CHB, 192 flats have been kept for HIG, 100 flats for MIG and 80 flats for EWS category. A total of 7,468 people applied in the survey conducted in February and March. Out of this, 5,081 applications came for only 3 BHK. That is, 68 percent of the people preferred HIG flats.
When the prices of flats were reduced in 2020, only 148 applications were received, due to which the scheme had to be canceled. But now there has been a change in the property market and people have shown good interest in the auction of vacant flats. For this reason, the board approved the construction of 372 flats in May 2023.
The UT Administrator had stopped the scheme, tenders were canceled
In August 2023, the then UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit had banned the scheme, considering it not necessary. Due to this, tenders for construction work worth Rs 200 crore had to be canceled. The last scheme of CHB was launched in Sector 51 in 2016.
According to the board officials, a decision on revised prices will be taken soon in view of the recent survey and demand. If approval is received from the administration, the scheme will be launched at new prices.
