The Punjab Police has achieved a major breakthrough. Amritpal Singh Mehron—the prime accused in the 2025 murder case of popular social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, alias ‘Kamal Bhabhi’—has been deported from abroad and brought back to India, where he was subsequently arrested. Providing details regarding this development, Gaurav Yadav (DGP, Punjab) stated that the accused was taken into custody in the early hours of April 10, 2026, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. He had been absconding for a long time and was hiding in the Middle East.
Sensational Crime Committed on June 11, 2025
According to police investigations, on June 11, 2025, the accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, along with three accomplices, abducted Kanchan Kumari. She was subsequently brutally murdered. After committing the crime, the accused placed the body inside a car and abandoned it in the parking lot of Adesh Hospital, an act that caused a sensation throughout the area.
Accomplices Had Already Been Arrested
The Punjab Police had already arrested the other three accused involved in this case. However, the prime accused, Amritpal, had fled the country shortly after the incident.
Action Initiated After Tracing Location in the Middle East
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the OFTEC (Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell)—operating under the Counter Intelligence Wing—worked in coordination with central agencies to trace the accused’s location in the Middle East. Following this, the extradition process against him was initiated.
Accused Deported and Brought to India
Upon the completion of legal formalities, the accused was taken into custody and deported to India. Immediately upon his arrival in Delhi, he was arrested and handed over to the relevant agencies for further interrogation.

DGP Gaurav Yadav reiterated that the Punjab Police maintains a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against organized crime and those who attempt to evade the law. He stated that such operations would continue to be carried out in the future to maintain peace and security in the state.
