Comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure that farmers and commission agents face no difficulties whatsoever in the markets during the wheat season; however, at the Chamyari grain market in the Ajnala constituency, commission agents and laborers appear distressed due to the improper lifting of wheat stocks. While massive piles of wheat have accumulated within the market, there is also a shortage of space, and the looming threat of rain adds to their anxiety.
**Piles of Wheat Accumulate in the Market**
Speaking on the occasion, the commission agents stated that the wheat piles have accumulated in the market because the tender holder is failing to transport the grain properly; consequently, the lack of timely lifting is causing them significant inconvenience. They noted that the laborers are also distressed, adding that there are no other issues within the market—their difficulties stem solely from the failure to lift the grain. They further alleged that the tender holder is not even paying the truck operators their full dues, and they urged the Punjab government to take immediate action against the tender holder.
**Fear of Rain Looms Large**
On this occasion, laborers working in the market expressed their distress over the lack of lifting, explaining that if it rains, it becomes extremely difficult for them to manage and safeguard the sacks of wheat. They pointed out that if the lifting were carried out on time, they would be able to attend to their other work commitments in a timely manner as well.
**Procurement Agency Issues Directives**
Responding to the situation, an official from the procurement agency acknowledged that certain issues regarding the lifting of grain have arisen in the market. Consequently, the tender holder has been issued directives to dispatch transport vehicles as a matter of utmost urgency. The official warned that if the vehicles are not dispatched promptly, a formal notice will be issued against the tender holder, and departmental action will be initiated.
**No Shortage of Vehicles: Tender Holder**
On the other hand, the tender holder, Sukhdev Singh Vehru, asserted that there is no shortage of vehicles and that trucks are indeed arriving at the market; however, he alleged that the commission agents are preventing them from loading the wheat onto their vehicles. He stated that, in accordance with government regulations, he has made a full complement of vehicles available at the Chamyari grain market, and a significant quantity of wheat has already been transported using these vehicles. He further added that, due to the high volume of vehicles at the warehouse, difficulties are being encountered in dispatching the vehicles after the wheat has been loaded.
