“Why the Raid Immediately After Leaving the Party?”: Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Sahney Questions Punjab Government

Date:

Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney has launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government regarding the raids conducted on fellow Rajya Sabha MPs Ashok Mittal and Rajinder Gupta. He has termed the action taken against the two MPs as an act of extreme brutality.

According to reports, Vikramjit Singh Sahney strongly condemned the incident in a post on his social media handle, ‘X’. He posed pointed questions to the AAP government, asking how Rajya Sabha MPs Ashok Mittal and Rajinder Gupta suddenly became “defaulters” just one day after leaving the party. He argued that, on one hand, the AAP government in Punjab has assured the public that investors would be encouraged to invest in the state; yet, on the other hand—within that very same state—such punitive actions are being taken against investors. Given this context, what message does the state government intend to send to investors by taking action against the Lovely and Trident Groups? He questioned how the two MPs could suddenly be labeled defaulters the moment they left the AAP to join the BJP. Did pollution suddenly begin to spread overnight? Or were GST regulations violated in the span of a single day?

Further cornering the AAP, MP Vikramjit Sahney asserted that the raids conducted on the two business groups clearly demonstrate that the departure of seven MPs from the AAP to join the BJP has deeply unsettled the ruling party. Consequently, he issued a warning to the AAP: if they are contemplating taking action against any of the MPs, they should forewarn their officials that the Central Government will not stand idly by and watch such acts of oppression unfold. He also tagged Union Home Minister Amit Shah in his tweet, leading to speculation that the Central Government may soon intervene in this matter.

It is noteworthy that just a few days ago, seven Rajya Sabha MPs—including Raghav Chadha—left the Aam Aadmi Party to join the BJP. This group includes Rajya Sabha MPs Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Swati Maliwal, Harbhajan Singh, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, and Rajinder Gupta. Just one day after they left the party, the Punjab government ordered raids on two Rajya Sabha MPs, Ashok Mittal and Rajendra Gupta. This action has heated up the political atmosphere in Punjab.
