Significant news has emerged from the political landscape of Punjab. The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) has taken a crucial decision in view of the upcoming elections for Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats. Following the approval of Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, observers have been appointed for various districts and cities, a move that has intensified political activity across the state.
According to the official orders issued by the party, Anil Joshi has been assigned responsibility for the Batala Municipal Corporation in Gurdaspur. Meanwhile, Jasbir Singh Dimpa has been appointed as an observer in Pathankot, and Kuldeep Singh Vaid in Kapurthala; similarly, Sunil Dutti has been entrusted with duties in Hoshiarpur, while Simarjit Singh Bains and Raminder Awla have been assigned to Moga. Senior leaders have also been deployed in several other key districts, including Bathinda, Fazilka, and SAS Nagar. Furthermore, a large number of observers have been deployed specifically for the Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. Various leaders have been appointed to areas such as Nakodar, Nawanshahr, Khanna, Jagraon, Anandpur Sahib, Rajpura, Nabha, Malerkotla, Sunam, Kharar, Zirakpur, and Dera Bassi. The list also encompasses areas within Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Ferozepur, Faridkot, and Amritsar.
The official orders explicitly state that all these observers are required to hold meetings with the respective Members of Parliament (MPs), candidates for the Legislative Assembly constituencies, District Congress Committee Presidents, and block-level leaders. Their primary responsibility will be to review election preparations, screen eligible candidates, and oversee the entire electoral process. Additionally, the observers have been instructed to visit their respective assigned areas to gain a firsthand understanding of the ground realities and to engage with party workers to gather their feedback. A comprehensive report detailing these findings must be submitted to the PPCC office by May 12.
