Acting swiftly, the Gurdaspur Vigilance Department has arrested a Divisional Accountant from the Powercom Department red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.
According to reports, Bishambar Das—a retired Junior Engineer from the Powercom Department—had an outstanding payment of approximately ₹1 lakh due to him from the department. Amritpal Singh, a Divisional Accountant posted at the SE Powercom office in Gurdaspur, had been stalling this payment for nearly a year. It is alleged that, in exchange for releasing the payment, Amritpal Singh demanded a bribe of ₹15,000 from Bishambar Das.
In connection with this matter, Bishambar Das lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Department. Acting on the complaint, the department laid a trap and sent him to the accountant with ₹15,000 in marked currency notes. The moment Amritpal Singh accepted the bribe money, the Vigilance team apprehended him on the spot in the presence of official witnesses and recovered the bribe amount.
Vigilance officials stated that the accused has been arrested and will be produced in court tomorrow.
