Rain and Storm Alert for 3 Days in Punjab: New Warning from the Meteorological Department

Date:

The weather pattern across various states of North India has undergone a complete transformation, bringing relief through pre-monsoon showers. Residents have found significant respite from the scorching heat that had persisted for several days. Thanks to snowfall in the upper regions of Himachal Pradesh and the influence of an active Western Disturbance over the mountains, a distinct coolness can now be felt in the air across Punjab. With a drop in both day and night temperatures, the weather has turned pleasant, allowing people to breathe a sigh of relief. The likelihood of rain persists in several areas, and people can be seen carrying umbrellas as they step out.

**Highest Maximum Temperature Recorded in Bathinda**
According to data released by the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Punjab remains significantly below normal levels. Although the state’s average maximum temperature saw an increase of 4.8 degrees Celsius compared to Saturday, it still stands 7.6 degrees Celsius lower than the seasonal normal. The highest maximum temperature in the state—38 degrees Celsius—was recorded in Bathinda. Meanwhile, Jalandhar recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius—figures considered to offer considerable relief compared to the previous week.

**Rain Alert Until June 3**
The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for various districts of Punjab, valid for the next three days. According to the department, there remains a possibility of rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds across several parts of the state until June 3. Consequently, people have been advised to remain vigilant and to avoid open spaces during adverse weather conditions. Weather experts suggest that, driven by pre-monsoon activity, the weather is likely to remain relatively cool over the next two to three days across the region, including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh. Intermittent rainfall is anticipated in several districts, which could lead to a further drop in temperatures. It is noteworthy that during the last week of May, temperatures in several districts of Punjab—including Jalandhar—had soared above 44 degrees Celsius, leaving residents distressed by the intense heat and heatwaves. The first pre-monsoon showers have now helped normalize the weather. In light of the Meteorological Department’s forecast, relief from the heat is expected to persist for the next few days.
