The intensity of the scorching heat in Punjab continues to rise, making it difficult for people to venture outdoors. While recent rains had provided some relief, hot winds and heatwave conditions have once again exacerbated the situation. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for heatwave conditions in several parts of the state until June 11.
Strong Winds at 40–50 km/h Expected
According to the Meteorological Department, the impact of the heatwave is likely to be most severe in the districts of Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Barnala, and Sangrur. The department has advised residents to avoid stepping out between 12 PM and 4 PM unless absolutely necessary and to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. However, between June 11 and 13, there is a possibility of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40–50 km/h in districts including Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, and Mohali. This is expected to bring some relief from the heat.
Regarding temperatures, Bathinda was the hottest city in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 44.8°C, while Chandigarh recorded 39.9°C. The Meteorological Department forecasts that temperatures could rise by another 3 to 4°C over the next four days, likely intensifying the heat conditions further
