At the initiative of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Amritsar, nine Bangladeshi nationals—who had been staying at the Central Jail’s transit camp—have been sent back to their country. Two women are among the group. Their safe repatriation was ensured following the completion of all necessary legal and administrative procedures.
This move is being hailed as a significant example of a humanitarian approach and the legal aid system in action. According to reports, the DLSA had been monitoring the cases of these individuals, who had been residing in the Central Jail’s transit camp for an extended period. All formalities regarding their return were completed through continuous coordination with relevant departments. Subsequently, they were dispatched towards the Bangladesh border with appropriate security and necessary amenities.
To be Handed Over at the Bangladesh Border
Officials stated that the individuals would travel to the border by train—a journey of approximately 30 hours. There, in accordance with established protocols, they will be handed over to the concerned Bangladeshi authorities, enabling them to reunite with their families and loved ones. The entire process was carried out under the guidance of Jatinder Kaur, District and Sessions Judge and Chairperson of the DLSA. Amardeep Singh Bains, Secretary of the DLSA, played a pivotal role in expediting the repatriation process by coordinating with various departments.
The Authority stated that protecting the rights and human dignity of foreign nationals is part of the institution’s mandate. With this objective, the individuals were provided with necessary legal assistance, and their cases were fast-tracked.

Significant Contribution by Jail Administration
The Central Jail administration also played a crucial role in this process. Jail Superintendent Rajiv Kumar Arora and Additional Superintendent Navinder Singh assisted in completing all administrative formalities on time and ensuring the safe departure of the individuals. Officials state that this return brings new hope to these citizens who have been living away from their families for a long time. Their reunion with their loved ones has been made possible through joint efforts. The District Legal Services Authority affirmed that it would continue to work in this manner to provide legal aid to those in need and ensure their access to justice in the future.
