Two young men tragically lost their lives in a collision between a truck-trailer (bearing a Himachal registration number) and a Bullet motorcycle on the Malikpur flyover, located on the Rupnagar-Sri Kiratpur Sahib National Highway, late last night. The accident occurred when the motorcycle rammed into the rear of the truck-trailer, which was stationary on the flyover due to a technical breakdown.
The deceased have been identified as Manpreet Singh (alias Mani Mahadev), son of Harpal Singh, and Harkirat Singh (alias Harry), son of Karamjit Singh; both were residents of village Ghanauli. They were reportedly close childhood friends. A wave of grief has swept through the entire area following their deaths. According to family members, the two youths were on their way to pay obeisance at a religious site. However, due to inclement weather—including heavy rain and strong winds—they decided to return to their village, Ghanauli, instead of proceeding further. As they reached the Malikpur flyover, they encountered the truck-trailer, which was already parked there due to a breakdown. Amidst the rain and darkness, their motorcycle crashed into the back of the stationary truck.
Immediately after the accident, locals informed the Road Safety Force (SSF). Upon receiving the information, the SSF team arrived at the scene with an NHAI ambulance and rushed both youths to the Civil Hospital in Rupnagar, where doctors declared them dead after examination.
Mani Mahadev used to create tableaux of deities for religious gatherings (*Jagrans*), while his friend Harry worked as a makeup artist in the film industry. Mani’s father, Harpal Singh ‘Pali’, stated that both young men were hardworking and financially independent; Mani owned a salon in Ghanauli, while Harry was associated with the film industry. According to the bereaved family, Harry was his parents’ only son and the sole support of his family.
