Jail authorities have arrested Robinpreet Singh, a warder posted at Amritsar Central Jail. Recoveries made from his possession included 79.40 grams of opium, 41.18 grams of a black-colored narcotic powder, 93.32 grams of a white-colored narcotic powder, 14 sachets of ‘Cool-Lip’, 215 grams of tobacco, 205 packets of sniffing paper, a mobile phone, and a SIM card. A case was registered against Warder Robinpreet Singh at the Islamabad Police Station based on a complaint by Additional Jail Superintendent Sahib Singh. Subsequent investigations revealed that the contraband recovered from the warder was intended for Rahul Kumar, an undertrial prisoner lodged in the jail. The police have also named the undertrial, Rahul, in the case.
*Punjab Kesari* had prominently highlighted the issue of identifying and apprehending the ‘black sheep’ responsible for the persistent recovery of mobile phones and narcotics from undertrials in the Central Jail. The report emphasized that despite tight security, certain rogue elements within the jail staff were facilitating the supply of these prohibited items to the prisoners; the recent arrest of the jail warder followed this campaign. The police are currently initiating the process to bring both the jail warder and the undertrial into custody via production warrants, a move expected to expose others who were colluding with the arrested warder. Meanwhile, the jail administration is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
