The party high command has stepped up efforts to quell the internal infighting that has surfaced within the Congress ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections. State in-charge Bhupesh Baghel arrived in Chandigarh on Monday and will hold separate meetings with leaders over the next five days.
Discussions will focus on preparations for the Assembly elections, the state of the organization, and recent controversies. The high command is working on a damage-control strategy following the discontent expressed by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and his supporters over the formation of the election committee. Sources indicate that Baghel will first meet with Channi and other senior leaders. Subsequent meetings will be held with State Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and other leaders. Rahul Gandhi is currently abroad, and the plan includes preparing a detailed report on Punjab’s political situation and election preparedness before his return. Following Baghel’s visit, this report will be submitted to Party President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
