The state government has announced a significant increase in the rate of compensation for land owners affected due to laying of 66 kV power supply line.
Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the rate of compensation has been doubled keeping in mind the fall in the price of land of the affected persons due to the installation of power supply lines. He said that this is an important decision, which aims to ensure proper compensation for the affected land owners.
Compensation will be 200 percent of the land price
Under the new policy, the compensation for the tower base area will now be 200 percent of the land price. Tower base area is defined as the land enclosed by four pillars of the tower at ground level with an additional extension of one metre on all sides.
Earlier this compensation was limited to 85 per cent of the area enclosed by four pillars of the tower only. Apart from the revised compensation for tower base area, the Punjab government has also hiked the amount of compensation for the Right-of-Way (RoW) corridor.
The compensation for land falling under this corridor as defined in Schedule VII of the Central Electricity Authority (Technical Standards for Construction of Electrical Plants and Power Lines) Rules, 2022 will now be 30 per cent of the land value. This is a significant hike compared to the earlier compensation rate of 15 per cent.
No construction activity of any kind permitted within the RoW of transmission line
The Power Minister said that while determining compensation, the land will be valued on the basis of circle rate or market value as determined by the District Magistrate, District Collector or Deputy Commissioner.
This compensation is given to compensate for the possible decline in the value of land due to the presence of overhead lines or underground cables within the RoW corridor. It is important to note here that no construction activity of any kind will be permitted within the RoW of the transmission line.
