Aman Arora, state head of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and member of the monitoring committee formed to monitor against drug abuse, also strictly warned all the councillors, sarpanches and panches of the state that no one should recommend the police to release the smugglers otherwise the government will also take strict action against them.
He also appealed to the councillors, sarpanches and numberdars to play their active role in the campaign against drug smugglers. Rising above party politics and personal relations, adopt zero tolerance policy against drug smugglers and do not help them in any way.
Reiterating the commitment to take action against drugs, he said that, whether it is a politician, police officer, or smuggler, no person who is harming the youth of Punjab by taking advantage of drugs will be spared.
Arora said that ‘Yuddh Nasha Ke Viruddh’ has now become a mass movement. He told that during this campaign with the support of the public, a large number of drug smugglers have been sent to jail and a huge amount of drugs have been seized across the state.
He said that the Punjab government has adopted a two-pronged strategy to eliminate drug menace. On the one hand, strict action is being taken to break the supply chain of drugs and drug money being sent abroad through hawala is also being stopped. On the other hand, drug victims are being rehabilitated.
AAP state president Arora, while targeting Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP and Congress, said that during the governments of these parties, there was a nexus of political leaders and drug smugglers in Punjab due to which Punjab, especially the young generation, suffered a lot. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party government has been continuously ending this nexus for the last three years and now this will be the last occasion when this dark era will end.
Anti-drone technology will stop drugs coming from across the border
Arora has announced that the Punjab government will soon acquire state-of-the-art anti-drone technology, which will further strengthen the fight against drug and arms smuggling from across the border. He said that Punjab will be the first state in the country to adopt this advanced measure. Arora said, “More than 90 percent of the drugs in Punjab come from Pakistan through drones, while it is the responsibility of the BSF and the central government to protect the international border. The new technology will identify drones up to 10 kilometers, track them and disable them.
