The District Magistrate of Chandigarh has issued 4 different orders. These orders will remain in force till 3 July 2025. Their purpose is to ensure the safety of women, register the identity of those staying in hotels, control travel agents sending them abroad and keep an eye on those selling army-police related items. Strict action will be taken against the person concerned for violating the orders.
1. Instructions to companies for the safety of women employees
The District Magistrate said that companies based in Chandigarh should not send women employees alone in a cab between 8 pm and 7 am. There should be a security guard or a male companion with women in the cab. He said that police verification of the driver, staff and guard should be made mandatory. The cab should stay there till the woman reaches home. So that women can reach their homes safely. It is mandatory to install GPS system in the cab. If you suspect the cab driver, inform the police immediately.
2. Identification of those staying in hotels, guest houses, inns is necessary
The District Magistrate said that no unknown person should be allowed to stay in Chandigarh without ID proof. The name, address, mobile number, identity card of the visitors must be recorded in the register. Submit photo copy of valid identity card, Aadhar card, voter card, driving license, passport etc. as ID proof.
3. Travel agents sending abroad must give information to SDM
All agents in Chandigarh will have to give information about their staff to SDM. Before starting a new business, police verification must be done. These rules will also apply to those giving visa, ticket, medical, study, tourism and IELTS coaching. He said that SDM and police officers will check it from time to time.
4. Those selling army/police uniform, flag, sticker will have to keep their identity
No shopkeeper in Chandigarh city should sell army or police uniform, sticker, flag etc. without identifying the buyer. It is mandatory for shopkeepers to register the photo copy of the ID and name-address of the person purchasing these goods.
