The financial condition of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has become very bad. It is becoming difficult to raise money for the salary of employees and other expenses every month. For this reason, now the Municipal Corporation has decided to sell the valuable land of Manimajra. This land is in Shivalik Enclave area and a residential project will be built here.
Under this scheme, flats and shops will be built on about 6.8 acres of land. Out of this, 0.5 acres of land has been kept for shops. This land is worth more than Rs 195 crore, but it is expected that its auction can earn up to Rs 800 to 1000 crore.
Ground survey and report complete
The Municipal Corporation has prepared the map of this land. The work of investigating the land, identifying encroachment and deciding the zone has been completed. Now this report has been sent to the administration, so that the land can be auctioned.
Senior Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Jasbir Singh Bunty said that if this land is sold at a good price, then the corporation will not have to worry about money for 10-15 years. He said that when the corporation has its own land, then why is there a need to ask for money from outside again and again?
The Municipal Corporation has 9 thousand 748 employees. Out of these, about 7 thousand employees are on contract. Every month 26 crore rupees are spent on the salary of contract employees and 16 crore rupees on the rest of the employees.
The Senior Deputy Mayor also said that the administration took about 40 acres of land from the corporation in the name of building a school and hospital, but neither gave any money nor another land in return.
The Municipal Corporation had earlier also earned 800 crore rupees by selling land to big companies like Uppal and Marriott Hotel. Now this scheme of Manimajra can also prove to be equally beneficial.
