Seven districts of Haryana have been at the top in getting conviction in serious crimes. There have been four districts which have achieved 100 percent conviction rate. These include Faridabad, Karnal, Dabwali (police district) and Fatehabad.
While CM City Kurukshetra has performed well with 75 percent, Sirsa with 78.57 percent and Rewari with 85 percent conviction rate. This was revealed by ACS of Home Department Dr. Sumita Mishra herself in the 25th state level committee meeting held late night under the ‘Marked Crime’ initiative.
He said in the meeting that the current conviction rate in Haryana is 61.5 percent, it is very important to cross it. It was told in the meeting that the state has included 117 new cases under this initiative for February and March 2025 and currently 1,683 cases are being actively monitored.
Punishment rate will increase in 4 crimes including rape
In the meeting, Dr. Sumita Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary, Haryana Home Department has asked the police and prosecution officials to intensify efforts to increase the conviction rate in serious crimes like rape, gang rape, murder and drug trafficking.
She said that quick, evidence-based investigation and timely forensic reports are extremely important to ensure conviction. Dr. Sumita Mishra said that every effort should be made to provide speedy justice to the victims. Delay or negligence in investigation or hearing weakens the confidence of the public.
Suggestion of appointment of special prosecutor
The ACS of the Home Department, while directing the district police officers and prosecutors to work in coordination with each other, suggested the appointment of special prosecutors in some cases so that a strong side can be put in the court. Dr. Mishra called for regular monitoring of serious cases and warned of fixing accountability for any negligence.
Six months pending report will be prepared
In the meeting, instructions were given to prepare a district-wise list of serious crimes pending for more than six months. It was also said that these cases should be looked at on priority basis, as well as proper legal strategy and administrative monitoring should be ensured. Dr. Sumita Mishra pointed out the need to equip the prosecution teams with digital tools and training, so that electronic and forensic evidence can be presented effectively in the court.
Apart from this, she directed to strictly implement the recently adopted witness protection policy in Haryana, so that witnesses in sensitive cases can get security and confidence.
