The administration has taken a unique initiative to establish Chandigarh on the new map of tourism. For the first time, top travel agents from across the country will be taken on a tour of Chandigarh so that they can inspire tourists going to Shimla-Manali to stay here for a day or two.
On the lines of Delhi, a plan has also been made to start singing and music performances in big gardens, in which local artists will be paid Rs 2000 per day.
Will be invited in the end of June or the first week of July
The tourism department of the UT administration is now putting in full effort to bring tourists to the city. The department has made a new plan that it will take the top travel agents and operators of the country on a tour of the city. For this, a meeting has already been held with the tourism secretary and the president of the Travel Agents Association of India and other officials. Earlier this program was to be held in May itself but it was postponed due to the war conditions. Now there are preparations to call top travel agents and operators in the end of June or the first week of July.
This is the objective of the department
The objective of the department is that the agents should see for themselves that there are many places to visit in Chandigarh and the connectivity is also good, so that whoever comes to them to book a tour package, they should also be advised to stay in Chandigarh for one or two days.
The department will associate local artists with itself, they will get 2000 rupees
On the lines of Delhi, now the Chandigarh Tourism Department is also going to give a new platform to the independent artists of the city. Under the scheme, local artists will get an opportunity to perform every evening at famous tourist places and gardens of Chandigarh like Rose Garden, Shantikunj and other major places. Whether the artist is a solo guitarist, singer or any other performing artist, if they have their own music setup or equipment, then they can give public performances by joining the department. For this, the Tourism Department will soon issue an Expression of Interest (EOI), through which interested artists will be able to apply. The selected artists will be given a chance to perform for about an hour every evening, in return for which they will be paid about 2000 by the department.
Delhi had started the scheme, will be implemented in Chandigarh
This model has already been implemented by the Delhi Tourism Department. It has received tremendous response from both the artists and the audience there. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised this initiative of Delhi in his radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’. A senior official of the Chandigarh Tourism Department said that initially this scheme was planned to be started in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, but in view of the financial condition of the corporation, the department has now decided to implement it independently.
