Ludhiana, Punjab – June 23, 2025:
A highly disturbing incident has emerged from Sherpur area of Ludhiana, where a dead body was found stuffed inside a blue plastic drum. The body was wrapped in a plastic sack with ropes tied around the neck and legs, suggesting a premeditated murder.
Residents alerted the police after detecting a strong foul smell in the vicinity. Officers from Police Station Division No. 6, led by SHO Kulwant Kaur, arrived at the spot and retrieved the body.
Initial Police Investigation:

The body appears to belong to a migrant worker, according to facial features.

The condition of the corpse indicates decomposition, though no visible injuries have been found so far.

The body has been sent to the Civil Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

A fresh and unused drum was used, raising suspicions that the container was recently purchased specifically for the crime.
Police Lists 42 Drum Companies for Investigation:

Ludhiana has approximately 42 drum manufacturing companies.

The type and origin of the drum recovered at the crime scene will be cross-verified with local suppliers and manufacturers.

Police are interrogating owners and employees of these companies to trace the purchaser.
Surveillance and Search Operation:

Police are combing through CCTV footage within a 5-kilometre radius, including footage from Safe City cameras, bus stands, railway stations, and the Ladowal Toll Plaza.

Multiple suspicious vehicle numbers are also under verification.

SHO Kulwant Kaur stated:
“The area has a significant migrant population. We are questioning local residents and cross-checking identities to match with missing person reports. The face of the deceased appears non-local.”

Similar Incident Last Year:
Notably, just 500 meters away from the current crime scene, a similar case was reported a year ago. A man’s amputated legs were found in a plastic bag near the railway tracks, and his torso was later discovered in a suitcase. That case still remains unsolved.
