The Education Department has issued special guidelines to reduce the burden of increasing school bags. Considering the physical and mental impact on students’ bodies, the department has decided to limit the weight of school bags. The department has clarified that if any school is found to be unnecessarily demanding more books from students, thereby increasing the burden of school bags, appropriate action will be taken against them.
District Education Officer (Middle), Rajesh Sharma, stated that in most schools, students are being forced to carry school notebooks and books for everyday use, even when they are not needed. The excessive amount of books is increasing the burden on students’ bags, even when they are not needed. The heavy weight of school bags is not only hindering students’ physical development but also causing spinal pain and other ailments.
Special guidelines have been issued after the department came to the notice of the above issue. He stated that students’ school bags should be very light. If schools require heavy books, they should be stored on the school premises. The next day, the books will be given to students for reading, and then they should be returned to the school premises. If anyone is found violating these rules in the future, appropriate action will be taken against them.
The District Education Officer stated that a special team has been formed to visit schools to ensure that the department’s guidelines are being followed. Additionally, a separate team will be formed to inspect auto-rickshaws and bus vans coming to schools.
