The Punjab government has decided to implement a new policy to reduce the backlog of vehicles at police stations. Under this policy, owners of seized vehicles will be given two opportunities to get their vehicles released. If the owner fails to collect their vehicle after these two opportunities, their vehicle will be sent for auction. According to sources, the police will refer the case directly to the Lok Adalat, allowing vehicle owners to get their vehicles back at a lower penalty. This process will eliminate the need for a lawyer or mediator.
According to the government’s new plan, special teams will be formed in every district to reduce the backlog of vehicles at police stations and speed up the process. According to reports, vehicle owners are often unable to get their vehicles released due to the high fines, which are so high that they could easily purchase a second-hand vehicle for the same amount. This is why vehicles have accumulated in 424 police stations across Punjab.
