A tragic accident occurred this morning on the Kartarpur-Dayalpur GT Road, killing two young men on the spot and seriously injuring three others. The accident occurred when a 16-tire truck loaded with iron rods, heading towards Amritsar, suddenly applied brakes and collided with a Baleno car coming from behind.
The impact was so severe that the iron rods from the truck penetrated the car, killing two young men, Chand (22) and Nikhil, who were sitting in the front seat, on the spot. Shubham, Amrik Singh alias Kohli, and Rudra Mahajan, who were sitting in the rear seat, were seriously injured and have been admitted to a hospital in Amritsar. Anil Kumar, Chand’s father, told police that his son was on his way to attend a religious event at Valmiki Chowk in Jalandhar with his friends Nikhil, Shubham, Amrik, and Rudra. The accident occurred near Kartarpur when the truck (number PB-13-V-7311) suddenly applied brakes.
Family and police arrived at the scene upon receiving information. Iron rods pierced Chand and Nikhil’s bodies, causing them to die on the spot. According to police, the truck was traveling from Mandi Gobindgarh to Amritsar, driven by a driver named Manjeet Singh. The driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have registered a case and are searching for the driver.
