The Food Safety Team of the Health Department is a constant threat during the festive season, and they are taking full advantage of this. Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, the Food Safety Team of Ludhiana conducted an inspection at a cold storage facility in the city today, where a large quantity of sweets was stored. During the inspection, the team found that khoya and gulab jamun were unsuitable for human consumption and stored in poor conditions. Due to poor quality and improper storage conditions, the Food Safety Team took immediate action and destroyed a total of 160 kilograms of sweets (khoya and gulab jamun) on the spot. This process was carried out in the presence of department officials. Therefore, if you buy sweets for Diwali, be cautious, as adulteration in the market has become rampant these days, which can directly pose a serious threat to our health.
Apart from this, a sample of Rasgulla was also collected from the spot, whereas the sample of Khoya was not taken. It is said that this action has been taken to save the confectioner. Although the Civil Surgeon says that strict action will be taken against adulterators, but the Food Wing team often saves the adulterators by citing technical reasons. Sources said that today two cold storages were inspected in which more than 500 kg of Khoya was stored. Although the team says that it took two samples of some other Rasgulla from the spot, but the Mass Media Department of the Health Department says that in the information given to them, only the sample of Rasgulla has been taken.
Political interference in food sampling
It is reported that politicians are acting as godfathers to Food Wing officials, resulting in a lack of transparency in food sampling in the city. The Food Department team summoned the Civil Surgeon and other officials to the Kisan Cold Storage, but they were not provided with accurate information. People expressed their concern that food sampling should be thoroughly investigated to protect people from substandard food and adulteration.
