The central government has given a major relief to the people of Punjab by approving land acquisition for the Rajpura-Mohali rail link project. Following this approval, the land acquisition process will begin, after which the work of laying the railway line will commence. The entire project is expected to be completed in approximately one year.
Once completed, this railway line will provide direct connectivity to millions of people in the Malwa region. This was a demand of the people of the state for almost five decades, which is now finally being fulfilled. A few days ago, the central government had approved this railway line, and preliminary preparatory work has already begun. This railway line will be 18.11 kilometers long, connecting Rajpura to Mohali. The project will cost a total of Rs 443 crore. Its construction will directly connect Punjab’s Malwa region to the state capital, Chandigarh.
According to the notification issued by the central government, 52.84 hectares of land from villages in Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Mohali districts will be acquired for the construction of this railway line. The new line will establish a direct rail link between 10 districts of Malwa and the capital city of Chandigarh. People from several districts, including Patiala, Sangrur, Rajpura, and Malerkotla, commute daily to Mohali and Chandigarh for work. They will now get relief from long journeys. Currently, trains travel to Chandigarh via the Ambala route, making the journey long and arduous. The new line will not only benefit daily wage earners and working professionals but will also provide significant relief to patients coming to the Chandigarh PGI hospital. After the construction of the new railway line, the travel distance will be reduced by approximately 66 kilometers, saving both time and money for the people.
