District Magistrate Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, IAS, exercising the powers vested under Section 163 of the BNSS (formerly Section 144 of the CrPC, 1973), has issued orders imposing various restrictions in the district. These restrictions will remain in effect until December 31, 2025, and strict legal action will be taken against those who violate them. According to the orders issued by the District Magistrate, no restaurant or hookah bar will serve hookah to customers. These orders will be applicable within the limits of all villages and municipal councils of the district.
She stated that action will be taken against violators. In another order, a complete ban has been imposed on possessing and using Pakistani SIM cards in the 4-kilometer area adjacent to the international border in Fazilka district. Another order completely bans flying quadcopters/drone cameras, etc., in the 4-kilometer area adjacent to the international border in Fazilka district. The District Magistrate has also imposed a complete ban on bringing weapons and firing them in marriage palaces operating in the district.
She has also banned the use of DJs (music systems), firecrackers, and laser lights after 5 PM in the villages bordering the district. The District Magistrate has issued orders prohibiting the sowing of tall crops such as BT cotton, maize, sorghum, sugarcane, mustard, rapeseed, sunflower, and other similar tall-growing crops in the area between the international border and the border security fence, and in the 70 to 100-meter area on the Indian side of the fence. This restriction has been imposed because it has been brought to the attention of BSF officials that some farmers are sowing BT cotton, maize, sorghum, sugarcane, mustard, rapeseed, sunflower, and other similar crops taller than 4.5 feet between the international border and the border security fence.
