While a sudden shift in weather patterns has led to a rise in temperatures, Powercom has simultaneously begun imposing prolonged power cuts. This is causing significant distress to the public; in particular, the absence of electricity during the summer season has made it extremely difficult to stay indoors. Whether by day or by night, power remains unavailable for hours on end, forcing residents to face severe difficulties in everything from accessing drinking water to carrying out their daily chores.
Furthermore, this situation has had an adverse impact on small business owners. Shops, welding workshops, flour mills, and other electricity-dependent trades and enterprises have ground to a near-total halt. The lack of power keeps machinery idle, thereby directly affecting daily earnings. The situation is equally concerning for farmers, as sugarcane crops in the fields require electricity for irrigation. Due to the prolonged power cuts, crops are not receiving water, compelling farmers to incur the high cost of burning diesel to operate their irrigation pumps. Local residents have appealed to the administration to improve the power supply and reduce the duration of these prolonged outages as soon as possible, so that the public may find some relief.
