While the scorching heat of April has made life miserable for residents on one hand, on the other, a large section of the city was left yearning for every single drop of drinking water due to the alleged negligence of the local Sewerage Board. Without any prior notice, the Sewerage Board kept the drinking water tube wells shut for a continuous 25 hours, causing immense hardship to thousands of people.
**Half the City Deprived of Water**
Providing details regarding this matter, Municipal Councilor Narendra Garg Neeta and former President of the Municipal Council, Makhan Sharma, stated that due to the tube wells remaining closed for the past 25 hours, the entire areas of Anaj Mandi Road, Kaccha College Road, Patel Nagar, 16 Acre, Ward No. 8, and Ward No. 9 have been severely affected. Water supply to homes in these areas came to a complete standstill, disrupting the daily routines of the residents.
**Officials’ Negligence Exposed**
Councilor Narendra Garg Neeta revealed that residents of his ward complained that not a single drop of water had reached their homes since the previous day. When he contacted officials of the concerned department, taking into account the gravity of the situation, it was discovered that these tube wells had been shut down since 9:00 AM on April 15. Expressing his outrage, he asserted that cutting off the water supply amidst such scorching heat constitutes a gross injustice against the people.
**Supply Restored Following Warning of Protest**
Narendra Neeta explained that the department only sprang into action after he issued a stern warning to the Sewerage Board SDO (Sub-Divisional Officer) that he, along with the ward residents, would stage a sit-in protest outside the office. Following this warning, the tube wells were switched on today, and water supply was successfully restored. **Demand for Departmental Action**
Municipal Councilor Neeta Garg and Makhan Sharma have demanded that higher authorities conduct a high-level inquiry into this matter. They raised the question: on whose orders was the water supply kept suspended for 25 hours? They demanded that the responsible official be identified and appropriate departmental action be taken against them, so that such negligence does not recur in the future.
