This comes as a piece of relief for the people of Punjab. The ‘Rail Roko’ (Rail Blockade) agitation, scheduled to be carried out by farmers today, has been temporarily postponed. Farmer organizations have announced that the protest has been deferred for the next three days.
**Farmer Leader Sarwan Singh Pandher Provides Details**
Earlier, the farmers had announced plans to stage a sit-in on railway tracks for three hours today, raising concerns that rail services would be disrupted. However, this program has now been temporarily suspended. The farmers state that the wheat procurement process has already commenced in the grain markets (mandis), resulting in a large number of farmers being occupied there. Keeping this in mind, the organizations decided to postpone the ‘Rail Roko’ agitation for three days. Providing details regarding this, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that, following a meeting, all the participating organizations decided to grant the government a grace period of three days.
**Protest Originally Scheduled for 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM**
He stated that the farmers’ primary demand is for the Central Government to provide relaxations regarding the wheat procurement norms. Additionally, he has urged farmers to remain prepared to resume the agitation after the three-day period. He also added that wherever issues arise concerning the procurement process, local farmer organizations are empowered to gather at their respective levels and take appropriate decisions. It is noteworthy that the ‘Rail Roko’ agitation—a state-wide protest originally scheduled for April 17 under the leadership of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM)—was intended to take place between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM; this protest has now been postponed for three days.
