The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has appealed to the city’s residents and property owners to take full advantage of the property tax rebate scheme by depositing their taxes within the stipulated timeframe. Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar stated that the assessment year for the 2026-27 tax cycle commenced on April 1, 2026. Property owners who deposit their taxes within the specified period are eligible to avail themselves of this special rebate.
**Rebate on Property Tax**
A rebate of 20% is being offered to owners of residential properties, while owners of commercial properties are being granted a 10% rebate. This rebate applies to taxes deposited between April 1, 2026, and May 31, 2026; however, payments made via cheques and demand drafts will be accepted only until May 26, 2026.
**Where Does the Tax Money Go?**
The Commissioner noted that while early tax payment allows citizens to maximize their rebates, it also serves to strengthen the Municipal Corporation’s financial resources. Property tax constitutes a major source of revenue for the Corporation, the proceeds of which are utilized to provide essential services such as sanitation, road maintenance, water supply, and various urban development initiatives within the city. Citizens are advised to verify their current outstanding dues on the official ‘e-Sampark’ portal prior to making their tax payments, and to ensure that all outstanding arrears are cleared within the stipulated deadline in order to qualify for the rebate.
