The time has come for motorists violating traffic rules in Amritsar to be on high alert. The Amritsar Traffic Police has implemented an online challan system starting today. Under this system, violators will be monitored with the aid of approximately 1,300 CCTV cameras installed at traffic signals and major intersections.
Effective today, an online challan will be automatically issued whenever a violation occurs. In this regard, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amandeep Kaur stated that this system was initially launched on a trial basis and has now been fully implemented. She appealed to motorists to halt their vehicles strictly behind the designated stop lines and zebra crossings at traffic signals. According to the Traffic Police, if any motorist crosses the stop line or stops their vehicle on a zebra crossing, an online challan will be automatically generated against them.
1,300 High-Tech Cameras to Keep a Watch
The approximately 1,300 modern cameras installed across the city are capable of reading vehicle registration numbers and detecting traffic violations from a distance. This will enable the entire challan process to be conducted without any human intervention.
