The situation turned extremely tense on the city’s Chandigarh Road today, witnessing a high-voltage public spectacle, after the family of a man arrested for the alleged rape of a minor girl took to the streets and blocked traffic. Lashing out with grave and sensational allegations against the police, the furious family claimed that the accused had been killed while in police custody. They alleged that the police had killed their family member and disposed of the body. The commotion led to long queues of vehicles on the main road, causing immense inconvenience to commuters.
According to reports, as soon as the accused’s family completely blocked Chandigarh Road and began raising slogans, a police team from Division No. 7 arrived at the scene with a heavy force. Police officials attempted to reason with the protesters and clear the blockade, but the enraged family members confronted the police team aggressively. A heated exchange and verbal altercation ensued between the police and the protesters. The family issued a blunt ultimatum, asserting that the accused had been framed in a false case and declaring that they would not budge an inch from the road until they were allowed to meet or at least see their family member.
Family’s grave allegation: ‘Driven away when we tried to meet him; police committed murder’
The protesting family alleges that the arrested individual is innocent. They claim that whenever they visit the police station or the relevant location to see him, the police intimidate and drive them away, denying them access. This treatment has turned their suspicion into a firm belief that the police killed him while he was in custody and are now attempting to cover up the matter by hiding his body elsewhere. Court sends accused to jail; police state he is safe behind bars:
Meanwhile, the police administration has clarified its position regarding the entire uproar and the serious allegations. Police officials stated that a shocking case involving the brutal assault and rape of an innocent 12-year-old girl in the Sanjay Gandhi Colony area had come to light a few days ago. The police arrested the individual accused of this heinous crime in accordance with the law. They claim that following rigorous interrogation, the accused was produced before the court, which ordered him to be sent to jail in judicial custody. The police have clarified that the accused is completely safe and remains incarcerated. While the police have cited the legal process in an attempt to pacify the protesters, a tense atmosphere still prevails in the area.
